For managers and directors
Costs
What you pay for when using bimai, and how it keeps AI costs low.
What it costs
- bimai itself is free. It's open source under the MIT license, including for commercial use.
- AI usage is paid to the model provider through your organization's Claude account.
- Your existing licences (Autodesk, Bentley, Microsoft 365) stay as they are; bimai uses them, it doesn't replace them.
How bimai keeps AI costs low
| Measure | Effect |
|---|---|
| Smaller models by default | Most roles (Issue Manager, Model Checker, Planning Analyst) run on the cheapest tier; the most capable model is only used when needed and allowed |
| Scripts do the counting | Parsing, checking, clustering and scheduling are done by ordinary code that costs nothing to run |
| Small teams | A team has at most five members, so no tokens are spent on agents nobody needs |
| Only relevant tools | Each project only exposes the connections it uses, which keeps every request small |
| Budgets per automation | Scheduled runs have hard limits on length and cost |
Every run records its cost per role, so you can see where the money goes.
